"This book was amazing I have read at least twenty series and this one definitely made the top five,I think you are a great author and I hope to read more of your series. So again thank you for taking me on an adventure across the world of lyrian.
The reason I've only read twenty series is because I'm thirteen.
I feel like I really connected with the characters in this book I cried when they lost and celebrated when they won
And finally (this is way to long 🙏 sorry) I rated this series five stars because HOW COULD I NOT and because it added some more humor and adventure to my life, thank you and goodbye"

  • This book was amazing I have read at least twenty series and this one definitely made the top five,I think you are a great author and I hope to read more of your series. So again thank you for taking me on an adventure across the world of lyrian.
The reason I've only read twenty series is because I'm thirteen.
I feel like I really connected with the characters in this book I cried when they lost and celebrated when they won
And finally (this is way to long 🙏 sorry) I rated this series five stars because HOW COULD I NOT and because it added some more humor and adventure to my life, thank you and goodbye
  • Hands down one of the best series I've connected with. The depth of the Jason and Rachel's character was really well done and you can really start to relate to the relationships they create with the people they interacted with. I've enjoyed other works by Brandon, including the Fablehaven series, but they don't touch this one. I really wish Brandon would expand it further and explore some more of the world with that little opening he left at the end with one of the main characters family members... As a word to the author, don't abandon this world yet there are still so many stories that can be told in the past, present and future to this series timeline.
  • This is a solid fantasy series. A complex world full of invention in the tradition of the genre, but manages to explore characters and concepts in a fresh way.

Too many fantasy novels can't escape the tropes of the genre, but Mull manages to do so in Beyonders. Sure, some of the familiar themes are present, but there is also a great deal of invention, and the storyn explores some unexpected paths. Far more than the usual swords and sorcery fare so common in YA fantasy.

A good read for anyone, probably most appropriate for middle school age readers.
  • Spoiler alert!!

I have to admit...that I was disappointed after reading the first two books. A lot of what the heroes in the Beyonders Book 1 and Book 2 did seemed pointless, such as a "useless word", especially since the Oracles specifically told Galloran to hunt for this word. Then, thankfully, author Brandon Mull did a great job with an action packed Book 3 that linked the "pointless actions" from Books 1 and 2 together.

I don't want to spoil things any more than I did. But Book 3 subtly hints at why the useless word and other pointless actions might have influenced the end outcome.

Now, I am re-reading Brandon Mulls' Books 1-3 again to understand what little details I missed from before.

Excellent read and great price for a wonderful trilogy!!!
  • Purchased this for my nephew. He didn't seem as excited about it as he was about Percy Jackson, or Harry Potter, but he read through the whole series pretty quickly so I am guessing he liked it. He has moved on to the Five Kingdoms by the same author so Brandon Mull writes good stories for young boys who enjoy reading.
  • FYI ...No spoilers in this review. The Beyonders book series is probably my second favorite juvenile literature series... and I have read a lot of series. We have around 2000 books in our home library at home (paper - not electronic). I admit the first book may start off a little slow but the more I read, the more I liked it. When I finished the 3rd book, Chasing the prophecy, I had decided this was almost my favorite book series of all time. I liked it even more than the first two. I loved the imagination involved in creating the new world and characters and types of individuals. What I loved even more was the way that good morals were taught. Concepts of loyalty and self sacrifice and integrity are held up as noble and, more importantly, something we could achieve ourselves. One theme I liked was that heroes don't have to have some special talent, but that doing the right thing regardless of the cost is being a hero. In other words, I can be a hero. There are certainly many books that are fun to read and interesting and this one is up there with some of the best of those in my opinion, but what elevates it most in my view is that is does so in a way that teaches youth and adults alike that we can be better than what we are. It gives us fictional examples of heroes.... and like the title of the first book indicates, a world without heroes is a dark world indeed.
  • My husband and I, along with our 11 year old son, have read the Beyonders trilogy and enjoyed it. It was an action adventure story with great characters fighting the age old battle of good versus evil. I would compare this series to The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (but for kids), or even the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini (minus the dragons). In all these books the world the characters inhabit become another character in the book, taking you on amazing worldwide expeditions (not always adhering to the physics of Earth). As with the other books I’ve mentioned, violence is large part of the action in the Beyonders, more so in the last book than the first two (tolerable for our tweener). Brandon Mull has yet to disappoint and has set the stage for great dialogues with our son (always a plus).
